Prohibited Items That Can't Go In A Skip Bin
When putting rubbish in the bin, its best to see what waste can and can’t go in a bin. The items not prohibited in a skip bin are below:
Oil
Drums of motor oil are not permitted. This can get mixed up in land waste and cause material to be flammable. Oil can also penetrate the ground and end up in storm water run-off, putting the environment and water wats. Find out more by visiting https://www.epa.nsw.gov.au which discusses the impacts of stormwater pollution.
Paint
Paint is similar to oil, it can be flammable and can also end up in water run-off. Paints and other chemicals can usually be taken to local recycling centres operated by your council, and in most cases are taken for free. If you’re in Sydney, try visiting here.
Asbestos
This is the big no no for skip bins. Asbestos is highly dangerous and placing this in the bin puts yourself, others on site and waste operators in the path of harm. Asbestos should only be touched by accredited asbestos removalists, who pack it separate to other waste and move it to accredited asbestos tips.
Gas Bottles
We commonly get asked this question, and the answer is always no. Gas bottles are explosive and can be very dangerous if hidden under rubbish so cannot be placed in a skip bin hire. If they are to get squashed by machinery, they can blow up. These can be recycled at your local council recycling centre.
Fire Extinguisher
These contain dangerous chemicals and like the items above, cannot be placed in a skip bin. Take these to your local council recycling centre.
Car batteries
Placing batteries of any kind can be very dangerous. These can get crushed at waste disposal centres and can explode. These should be taken to your lcoal council recycrlcing centre who typically take them free of charge.
Skip Bin Permits
When hiring a skip bin, it’s important to check if you need a local council permit. Most councils in Sydney require a bin permit if you plan to place it on public space including roads. There are strict guidelines were bins can be placed to ensure they cause the least inconvenience for pedestrians, traffic and open spaces.
In some rare cases, councils may not allow you to put a bin outside your property if it is going to restrict traffic, for example if you site is on a main road with clearways in play.
You don’t need a permit if your bin is getting placed within the boundary of your property. Check with your local council.

Advantages Of A Skip Bins
Removing waste can be an arduous task. It can be messy, heavy and generally very physical work. A skip bin can help. If you have machinery on site, perhaps that can be used to lift up and place rubbish in. Our skip bins with doors allow you to easily wheel burrow rubbish in rather than trying to lift if over the height of the bin if you don’t have an excavator or bob cat on site.
